After a faux Beastie Boy display a pink explosion occured on the stage and with that Nicki Minaj was presented with the Best Hip Hop Video Award for Super Bass. Earlier on Minaj had stated that this was the award she was hoping to win. As luck would have it she won….Congrats Nicki!

“Oh my god!” she screamed dramatically when she received her Moonman statue. With her pink and yellow beehive and colorful, geometric ensemble where there were some sort of points protruding from the bodice, the human Barbie from Queens gave plenty of shout outs to fellow rappers including Lil Wayne and blew tons of air kisses.

Nicki Minaj capped off a non-stop evening that included an MTV Video Music Award win by showing up on stage with Taylor Swift at the Staples Center, where she joined the pop-country singer for a performance of Minaj’s smash hit ‘Super Bass.’

We’ve known for months that Swift loves ‘Super Bass,’ ever since she rapped a portion of the song during a radio interview. But last night she took it to another level by playing the song during her set. Swift rapped the opening lines, “This one is for the boys with the booming system…” before Minaj appeared and took over, as Swift danced and playfully tossed her hair around.

The two young divas from opposite ends of the pop music spectrum seemed right at home on stage together. “I wanna thank her from the bottom of my heart. I love you, Taylor,” Minaj said after the song. Swift later tweeted, “The combination of the INSANE crowd tonight and @NICKIMINAJ joining me onstage for “Superbass” = #IwishthatIcouldhavethismoment4life.”

‘Super Bass’ won the VMA for Best Hip-Hop Video last night and reached No. 3 on the singles chart, becoming thehighest-charting rap song by a solo female in nine years.

Nicki Minaj: Super Bass Video

I personally purchased the Deluxe edition of “Pink Friday” for the bonus tracks. “Super Bass” being one of these is my favorite song on the entire album. I anxiously looked forward to the release of Nicki Minaj’s video and was ecstattic to hear that this was to be her next single. Last week Nicki was scheduled to release the video on 106 & Park but it was delayed. She teased her fans with a sneak peek of the dance sequence. The video shows us the fun flirtatius side of Nicki. “Super Bass’ features vocals by Ester Dean. The video was directed by Sanaa Hamri.

Nicki is curently my favorite artist as her talent transcends much more than hip hop. She’s a rapper, singer, fashionista, and all round entertainer…and the fact that she’s Trinidadian & represents the Caribbean makes me respect her craft all the more!!!
